Foundation Statistics training

Foundation Statistics for Scientists
F101 - 1 day on-site / 2 online sessions

Available for online delivery!

Basic Stats in a day! This workshop helps you to choose and use appropriate statistical techniques in your day-to-day work. Learn which charts and graphs to use in order to present your information effectively. Practice (and master) statistical methods such as designs, displays and distributions.

Analyse your data using t-tests and analysis of variance and fit appropriate curves. You’ll get hands-on experience of managing and analysing data, and of quickly generating charts and graphs. Following the workshop, you’ll be better equipped to analyse and interpret your data - and better equipped to effectively communicate your results.

Topics covered

  • T-tests and Analysis of Variance
  • Regression
  • Creating and interpreting charts and graphs
  • Using charts to facilitate analysis and understanding
  • Parameter and attribute relationships
  • Trends and performance over time
  • Identifying differences and correlations

Software Tools Used

We regularly run this course using the following software packages, but please just contact us if you'd like to discuss using your current in-house tool instead:

Attendees may also be interested in exploring Prism's free online Basic Statistics, Nested and PCA 3D Visualiser tools.

Who should attend?

  • All scientists interested in establishing (or reinforcing) a confident foundation in the statistical elements of their work – and in finding effective ways to present their data

Comments from previous Foundation Statistics for Scientists delegates...

I found defining the statistical margin of error, the 95% confidence level that something is significant or not, particularly useful.
One of the most useful things for me was gaining an understanding of what certain statistical software is capable of and what it is not so good for, so that in future I know when we can use it to add value to our projects.
The content of the course and the quality of the presentation was excellent.
I'll be able apply what you have learnt to my own area of work.
Our trainer had an amazing understanding and passion for the subject and was able to relate everything back to real world analogies which really helped – I usually struggle with statistics but found myself being able to follow most things on this course because of the time was taken to explain everything in terms I could relate to.

There are no public workshops currently scheduled for this course - please contact us to learn when we'll next be running it, or if you'd like to discuss an online or on-site delivery.
